kinkatopia Lady kinkajous

 Chloe

Chloe is a diva — she is the true definition of the queen of Kinkatopia. She is entitled, loves pampering, and prefers to be the center of attention. Oh and she throws temper tantrums when she doesn’t get her way. Such a lady.

She favors the highest place in a room or enclosure. I have established multiple perches for her to be able to sit and look out upon her kingdom.

Don’t you dare offer Chloe something she will not be interested in, whether it be food or a toy. She will glare at you and toss it aside, as if she is punishing a peasant. Offerings must be worthy.

She may sometimes be fickle, but Chloe speaks to the soul. Spend any amount of time with her and you will see. When she looks at you, she sees deeply into a person. I also say that we are connected on an emotional level — she is very special.

Gotham

Gotham is the definition of an introvert. She isn’t a fan of being approached, but will approach only on her on terms. She cannot be held or pet — she has set boundaries and they are respected. She takes food from my hand and comes when called. She is a stickler for routine and doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body.

She actually has grown to have quite the sense of humor and is full of surprises. Her stealthy and quiet demeanor allows her to turn up in the most unexpected places: in a drawer or behind a curtain.

This is pretty cute — she is bowlegged.

It is rare, but she does play. She wrestles with Arkham to no end, but every once in a while I will catch her with a toy. She is huge on foraging activities.

She is also surprisingly brave and resilient. She is not phased easily by other animals, people, or loud noises. As long as her main familiarities are at play, she is laidback.

She used to have a relationship with the resident flying squirrel, Maverick. He used to live in a bookshelf and free roam the house. Gotham would sit with him and share dinner and water. She does the same with our tabby cat, Lamb. She enjoys sharing dry cat food and a water dish with her fellow feline.

Twizzlers are her favorite! I frequently find her standing on her hind legs soliciting for Twizzlers each evening, at the main room’s sliding glass entries. She places her front paws on the glass and gives you the eyes; those big, dark Puss-in-Boots eyes. She is so hard to say “no” to. And God forbid there are no Twizzlers in the house! She pouts — there is no acceptable substitute, therefore we always keep them on hand. The red ones are her favorite, but she actually enjoys all kinds!

TrashCan

TC is a blessing. Her feisty attitude made her a challenge in the beginning, but with patience and unconditional love — she’s a muffin!

She loves to be held like a baby, draped over your shoulder and walked around. But DO NOT pick that potato up! She has to drop herself into your arms or get onto your back on her terms.

She is obsessed with blankets and pillows. I noticed this early on. It was like she has never felt these items before and just loved to rub on them. She makes forts inside my couch and never passes up a good blanket.

She’s a total tomboy who loves to wrestle with the boys. If anyone is wrestling without her, I guarantee you’ll see her dive into the pile. She has to be a part of. In fact, she just adores being a part of anything and everything. She is a fan of “helping” with daily chores, which really consists of her following underfoot — she is a master of tripping her caretakers. TC also likes to sit on the couch and explore the house.

She is a master mischief-maker and very destructive. I think the idiom “a bull in a China shop” was created for Trash. She has disassembled the camera in their room, removed the ventilation cover, and — her current pastime — peeling the paint off the walls. I just like to think she is helping me prep the room for a fresh coat of paint.

She has a sweet tooth and a great sense of humor. However, as much of a social butterfly as she is, TC needs her alone time and loves naps! I think everyone can relate to this little girl in one way or another. She is a special angel!

P.S. Don’t awake the sleeping bear. You’ll get an earful. I am happy to say, these days, she is all bark and no bite. I typically just slip a gummy into her mouth, while she is yelling at me. Problem solved.

WINNIE

Winnie is a girlie girl who likes the finer things in life. It’s true! Unfortunately, her anxiety has caused her to be an overeater, so the treats have been dialed back. Winnie is on a diet and is a sucker for dried fruits.

Winnie’s gorgeous feminine looks match her gentle, inner beauty. Although, initially misunderstood and previously deemed “aggressive,” she has been a sweet lady at Kinkatopia. She is a shy and quiet observer. She is patient and inquisitive. It seems that when Winnie settles into an environment, she grows territorial. Understanding this, we’ve made accommodations for her here.

Winnie is unstoppable! She does not let her disability slow her down. She walks on her amputated arm and climbs with ease. Her perseverance and kind demeanor are an inspiration to all. She has quickly become Kinkatopia’s little darling.

Bell.jpg

bella

Bella joined us in May 2020. After about a year on our wait list, the sanctuary she was residing at finally closed so Kinkatopia needed to jump in for an emergency pick up. She came to us as a long-term boarder, but in July 2020 she was introduced to Kinky and they are living happily ever after! Bella is here forever!

Bella is very loved by her original human mom! In fact, her mom is the one who set all this up for Bella to assure she would always be taken care of.

She is sweet and social. At 9-years-old, she is very petite with an unusually thick coat. She is a marshmallow junkie and has a great appetite for dinner. She is quite the member of the clean plate club!

She is a champion of overcoming new environments, which is amazing for her species. She hates fireworks, but now has a buddy to comfort her. She and Kinky love to sleep together.

Myla: RIP

Myla.jpg

Myla was a piece of work! Weighing only 3 pounds, she was our smallest kinkajou! And talk about a Napoleon complex … she ruled the roost! She LOVEd to eat! She was bossy and demanding, but on the contrary, quite the little mouse.

She was spayed when she first arrived to help with her sassy attitude, but she was still spicy as ever! in fact, that’s what Myla was known for. her tiny, spicy self.

She suffered from occasional anxiety spells, with which she dealt with by curling up and rocking. Her roommate Momo was also there to help by grooming and comforting her. Momo loved her so much.

Myla tragically passed on October 5, 2022. The haven was attacked by a swarm of Africanized Killer Bees. I don’t have the heart to remove her. She is Kinkatopia forever and donating in her honor is possible.

Monkey.jpg

Monkey

This pretty girl came to board temporarily at kinkatopia, and in March 2021, joined the fam permanently - quickly earning everybody’s love.

She is quite chill and friendly. Fortunately she and her roommate (Molly) coexist very well. monkey loves t-shirt snuggles and of course … her daily back massages. monkey’s love language is touch - So much so that a special basket was installed on the side of her enclosure to facilitate said massage habit.

However, as kinkajou priorities go, massage session is over as soon as food is involved.and dont let the cute look fool you! she is notorious for biting fingers.

Molly.jpg

Molly

molly’s mom nicknamed her “sunshine,” and she sure is! she came to us when her family needed to move because of covid in 2021. they were heartbroken but content in knowing molly is back where she has boarded before.

molly is so incredibly dear and shy. when you look into her eyes, you see her gentle personality.

this little girl loves sqeaky toys and chicken legs! Those are a few of her favorites!

kinkatopia lady “other” creatures

norma jean

Norma is a large-spotted african genet. she was donated to kinkatopia from the newport discovery zoo in newport, oregon. norma was raised within a home as someone’s pet, but they were keeping her in a small cage with little out time. this wasn’t working out - obviously - and norma was surrendered to the zoo. She resided there up until her companion passed. She came to kinkatopia in hopes that she could live inside with norman, but he is afraid of her. therefore, we quickly built for her outside. we hope to one day find a companion for norma jean.

Momo, flying squirrel

Momo is a nonreleasable Northern flying squirrel. She came to us in 2020 to be a companion for Maverick. Her favorite treat is almonds and she loves running in her wheel.
